Last night when I called It took you by surprise Can’t recall the last time We looked each in the eye Just called to say hello So nice to hear your voice Things don’t seem to change much Pick up where we left off Your roots grew in a southern state Moved just two doors down Your mom liked to call your dad mister I always thought that odd Too many differences to count But friends with no condition Guess it’s best we never talked about Like politics and religion I remember all the girls You knew how to talk em up It was good some like the silent type Or I’d been out of luck You were tough as nails not like me You liked to pick a fight But I always saw the soft spot That you kept quiet We were lucky not to fight in no wars But fought in fields Meant for growing up Ran together in this small town You trying to find trouble Me keeping my head down There’re miles that lie between And some distance in our words But when came down to you and I The lines were always blurred I didn’t like you much That summer day we met But as fast as that day went by You had my back And I had yours So lets just keep it simple Before we have to go As the world trys to divide Even brothers vulenerable Lets not get caught up With all the crap on television Facts get lost When crowded by opinion So let’s not risk talking about Politics and religion.

I bet he don’t sleep much Thinking up lies Covering up tracks Takes a lot time He was given everything But I’m gonna bet he’ll lose So dirty but I can See right through Don’t know if there’s a hell below us Or a heaven in the sky But a day is coming when he’s walking Where the river runs dry There’s shadows in the hills and vultures in the sky and there’s no way out of where the river runs dry He can hide all day never make a sound Even try to get lost in a crowd It’ll catch up When he least expects Be prepared there’s no going back There was a fork in the road He chose long ago He can try to forget it but he’s headed Where the river runs dry All day long He’ll self-aggrandize But soon be repenting Where the river runs dry How do you stand with who seeks to divide? Are you lost boy? Did you take a wrong turn somewhere down the line? You think that’s god on his side? Be careful or you’ll find yourself Where the river runs dry Watch your deeds Count your blessings Remember what you give In turn you receive He wakes to a sweat From a dream last night Just a taste of what’s coming when he’s walking Where the river runs dry Don’t know if there’s a hell below us Or a heaven in the sky But a day is coming when he’s walking Where the river runs dry

I wonder where you are I wonder why you left I didn’t say goodbye Didn’t have the chance It’d be nice if you would call I need to know you’re well You can keep or whisper secrets I promise not to tell So only you and I’d know Only you and I’d know We can talk for just minute Or watch the hours pass The time has come to clean up All the broken glass That only you and I know Only you and I know At first I just tried to find some blame Now I worry that I’ll stop to find a way To end years of silence there’s no getting back I’d thank you for the call Keep it between us Though there’s people here that love you I won’t risk your trust And once I know you’re safe I’d try to get some rest As I close my eyes I’d hope you think I’m really not so bad At first I just tried to find some blame Now I wait until the day I’ll hear you say Let’s end years of silence there’s no getting back Some days we had were good But easy to forget I wonder if we made some room We could live with the regrets That only you and I know Only you and I know

This Train 03:32
This train carries me home everyday So safely until I arrive You wait for me there And greet me with arms open wide I hear the sound of wheels on the track It feels like today winds at my back I get here like clockwork on time But I liked the ride I guess this is my stop It’s time to get off of this train I’ve met plenty a stranger on my way Now and again make a new friend In some cars we sit face to face Then we all have names This is my stop It’s time to get off of this train This train has slow mighty power I don’t know nothing that matches its strength As it arrives to my station I’m leaving but hope to be back some day Now I could have taken a plane But would have missed that whistling song I might have got here quicker But I’m stronger when I sing along This is my stop It’s time to get off of this train This train carried me everyday Safely until I arrived You always were there But this time my heaven won’t wait This is my stop It’s time to get off of this train It's my last stop it's time to get off of this train

When I feel lost When I have fear I have a choice And it leads me here To an open door With a light inside When I walk in I’ve arrived, and I say Amen, I say Amen, I say So be it, Amen On this journey I catch myself Looking behind To somewhere else But if I look ahead Bless bumps in the road And don’t carry em with me That’s a better way home So many things Outside of our control Can’t be another way Just accept and say The sun comes up A new day begins Another chance To try again I’m gonna try again And say Amen, I say Amen, I say
6.
There’s something in the way of a bridge I want to cross To understand all the things you’ve lost You walk the line and stand up straight But got nothing to show for the price you pay And the world it won’t stop to turn You got to be heard You got to be heard That comes before you’re understood Time to light a fire cuz we need to change What will tomorrow bring if we stay the same Can’t we agree there’s plenty to be learned You got to be heard Now there’s a child in the street looking for a place to play And his momma watches close trying not to be afraid She only wants a chance for him to have a dream Loves the only way for us to redeem But we watch as the cross you bear is burned You got to be heard You got to be heard That comes before you’re understood Time to light a fire cuz we need to know It’s hard to breathe when you’re being choked Can’t we agree there’s something to be learned You got to be heard Let’s hold hands and find a place to meet Leave behind the books that haven’t helped to teach I know you’re tired, can no longer wait Together we’ll walk thru those gates My privilege has made me way too late But let’s try and fly like a bird
7.
I had a day I’ll tell you That I’d rather forget Trying to get it right But I can’t get ahead Got to get away before I say what I’ll regret Will you join me honey? Don’t make me wait Now and then a day is Meant for writing off (best to just write off) I’ve gotten to the point Where enough is enough Let’s get lost in a crowd C’mon and meet me downtown I tripped over the dog Knocked my coffee to the floor Running late forget the keys Locked outside the door I’m rushing around Trying to get thru the day So much to get done And it don’t ever change Ain’t nothing tragic Can’t complain but I’ll leave it till tomorrow if it’s just the same Let’s get lost in a crowd C’mon meet me downtown Need a dose of the evening sky Music playing, people laughing, all night Wanna see our shadows Dancing in the moonlight
8.
There’s a fire burning Miles to go but I still feel the warmth And as you fan the flames It leads me home Leads me home When I feel the dark clouds Winds blowing like a hurricane You say come dance with me In the rain In the rain Chorus That’s how I know you love me That’s how you show you care That’s how I know you love me That’s how I know you’ll always be here It’s the little things You say and do All I keep inside You see right thru See right thru Bridge You always try to understand You always know when I need help It’s like know me better Then I know myself The world keeps on turning And the road ahead far from clear Too many human flaws Making tears Making tears So when I feel the dark clouds Winds blowing like a hurricane Just say come dance with me In the rain In the rain

Spend a lot of time walking like there’s someplace to go I figure if I keep moving there’s less for you to know And when I’m in a crowded place I might be asked to leave And if our eyes make contact you look the other way I’ll sleep by the moonlight tonight I had a setback in the eighties I thought I’d be alright A small brush with the law like many of my friends would There was something going on inside that changed me for good Most of my friends are gone now some of us wish we were I’ll sleep by the moonlight tonight I wish I found I love that sounds real nice They say there’s someone for everyone that wasn’t my luck I worked hard I tried but something held me back I don’t know what you call it I’m a little of track I’ll sleep by the moonlight tonight

I’ve been around enough to know what’s wrong It took a little time but now I see If I was young and learned what I know now that I’m not I’d cross the bridge before I’d watch it burn Now it’s not so hard to apologize But good sense worst enemy is pride I was lost and didn’t know In time it starts to show Gotta kick off dirt I picked from the road Just wanna make it right, honey I’m gonna make it right, sugar I’m just here to end the fight (The trick is just to the see the light) Make it right I wanna make it right, honey I’m gonna make it right, sugar I’m the loser in this fight (Once it’s done I’m out of sight) Make it right I’m gonna make it right Word got out that I came back to town I’m not here to show you that I’ve changed I stopped in for one then shut the bar down It’s not like I’m staying anyway I’m nervous as I get up to your porch I hope you listen what I want to say My instinct is to run as I knock on the door I worked up courage but now it’s gone away Now I can see at first your surprise I say I only want a minute of your time I know I made a good thing bad I wish I could say more I know it’s not enough and way too late

I’m not much of a talker I keep things to myself I try to bury memories But some are later felt It’s a choice to cross a line I’ve drawn to stay behind But you can’t help yourself You cross it every time I’ll pour myself a drink This time I’m not gonna let the silence speak I’ve held back but now it’s coming out The tequila’s talking now The tequila’s talking now We grew apart so slowly It was like staring at a clock It’s sad it came to this but it’s okay Cuz when one things done another one starts I see my look in the mirror I know I’ve had enough I’m not one to waste my words I’ve learned to bite my tongue But I’ll just have another drink This time I won’t let the silence speak It’ll cut deep but leave you with no doubt The tequila’s talking now The tequila’s talking now I can’t stand by What you stand for I guess our differences I can no longer ignore I’ll have a shot or two I won’t look back as the door closes on you I’m loose and in my walking shoes The tequila’s talking now The tequila’s talking now

Election Day 03:35
I saw you standing there You waved at me that night Then walked away and were out of sight I think you surrendered to A phantom freedom call And just like that we don’t talk at all But there was a time you aspired to Your better angels wish Just like a sweetness of a kiss Something changed, I don’t know You turned a blind eye Now we’re wondering in a deep divide And you won’t give in any at all No, you won’t give in any at all But I hope to see you one day On this side of the wall Cuz I won’t give in any at all I won’t be with you, but I bet you raise a glass tonight I’ll be with my brother who don’t look much like me They don’t pray like me, love live me Lord give a sign Your angels have deserted all those who think they’ve been left behind. And you won’t give in any at all No, you won’t give in any at all I hope to see you one day On this side of the wall Cuz I won’t give in any at all
13.
You think you know it all It’s never your fault Got no one’s back There’s nowhere but where you’re at You don’t try to understand Chorus Until it happens to you Until it happens to you You don’t care what I’m going thru Until it happens to you You never try on someone else’s shoes Until it happens to you It’s the blame game You play it well It’s never about you And always what others do You don’t try to sympathize Every day the divide is getting wider About to split in two Every day it keeps on getting harder When you deny what’s true All closed off Siting in a bubble Nothing getting in Ain’t learning nothing
