He arrived at Ellis Island With a wife and a heart of fire Some loose change in his pocket Hopes were running wild He had the courage to leave his homeland On a young man’s dreams he’d ride Worth all the risk and sacrifice Trying to make a better life He deeply loved his woman And soon the kids would come Didn’t speak the language Workday never done As a boy I remember All the time we’d share I would listen to this old man Broken English from his chair The years went by He’d tell me with a smile Memories fade with time But it won’t change this heart of mine I never gave in boy I didn’t stop trying I listened every single day To this heart of mine Though the body may break down There’s still some precious time And it’s still beating like the day I was born This heart of mine I never could tell He never did say If all his dreams came true but tomorrow’s another day Best to forget What slips out of your hand See a mountain In every grain of sand So when I feel the thunder Get caught in the rain I sometimes hear his voice Brightens up my way Cuz the years just keep on flying by Scary where they go What I took for granted I now want a little more But I won’t get caught I’m a witness, I’ve been taught That memories fade with time But it won’t change this heart of mine

Going away you can find me Looking out a window on a southbound train A one-way ticket will do just fine I don’t think I’m coming back here again Sunshine peaking in after a summer rain What was down has been chased away On a southbound train What I lost is found rolling down These tracks just south of Point Loma With some luck the end of the line Will be somewhere just over the border Sunshine peaking in after a summer rain What was down has been chased away On a southbound train There’s nothing to hide from It’s a clean break No one to hurt, to blame or to hate On a southbound train Every time this train slows down To a place I’ve never been before I wonder if I should try my luck I wonder if this is one I should ignore But as I look out the window I see the world flying by I want all the answers But I know I’ll be denied I reach back and I find the map That shows me where I may arrive On a southbound train My mind is as cool as this wind at my back Lord I want to thank you for showing me where heavens at On a southbound train

I’m never too high or low Been taught sir that’s the way to go Look me in the eyes That’s the way to get inside If you want to find me I’m living between the lines I’m never too high or low Just a clue I thought you should know You seem lost there in the clouds Good fortune can quiet other sounds How could you ever find me? Living between the lines Step up to the line No need to cross I’m doing fine Just once I want you to see me Living between the lines Sometimes it gets lonely Living between the lines I’m never too high or low Trouble waits too far below Way above the line Each breath just means you’re buying time That’s why you will find me Living between the lines I’m just trying to survive here Living between the lines

Words 03:26
If words could change the things I know are so I’d use all words that I have come to know I’d use a word that wipes out any blame I’d use a word that takes away the pain A word that rhyme’s and opens up the mind The past is past the present keeps no time Chorus But why can’t I make heads or tails of this? I use the words that I think would fit You say it’s not what I say but how I say it So for all I got done under the sun If only I wouldn’t a tripped up on my tongue They’re just words They’re just words If words could change the things I know are so I’d use all words that I have come to know I’d use a word that changes the way you see Who I am and what’s inside of me I’d use a word that frees my inner charm One that brings you back into my arms I’d use a word like magic it would be If a word could make you fall in love with me

Keepsake 04:48
I saved a little keepsake Years ago before we had it all I found it by accident Way up high on an empty bedroom shelf In a room I rarely go in In a house that’s too big for myself When I found this little keepsake An empty room seemed to crowd right up The picture told a story Spirit of youthful foolishness and words can lose their meaning Like the faded ink she scribbled on the back On a count of three your supposed to smile But she blinked like when I asked her not to go If a keepsake tells a story Safe to say some are better left untold That little keepsakes in the trash Didn’t take up much room but is better where it’s at Letting go is always best I didn’t get this far only to go back I hear the second-hand ticking on my kitchen wall It’s wired to move forward There’s no moving it back at all I left that house a while ago Roots grow only as deep as what’s in your heart That keepsake told a story With an ending that would be where I’d start This road I’m on got wider It holds my weight and I can spread my wings There’s plenty of room at my side For whatever you might want to bring That little keepsakes in the trash Didn’t take up much room but it got me where I’m at Letting go is always best I didn’t get this far only to go back

Up To You 03:57
It seems every day there are choices to make many things to decide I’m beginning to think it’s better to just go along for the ride If you are willing to meet in the middle I’ll be so obliged If you’re up to the task I’m ready ask and give this a try It’s easy to get caught in thinking there’s only one way to go When you arrive it’s easy to see how little you know So if I give you the keys and leave this all be will you lead me on home There’s a light shining bright a friend in the night this weights off my bones Chorus I’m leaving it up to you I’m leaving it up to you Will you open my eyes to things I never knew I’m leaving it up to you Bridge Just once I want to breathe So deep so light I’m floating on air And like a feather I slowly fall to your feet And this weight it’s off of me The time that we have the ego expands a need to control But to look through the eyes of another is easy as letting go So just for this moment in you I entrust help me to see I’ll take back the ball when your weary for now I’m free to…

Sammy was a quiet man Just like April’s type They met on a cold damp winter day Married under stars on a warm September night Sammy worked with his two hands April an odd job or two Money was always tight Lived week to week in a one bed motel room Chorus You have me, I have you too Let’s bury what makes us broken in our rear view With you I’m lost in the clouds Gone are all my doubts We’ll figure it out First son was a bit of a surprise Second way past due One would take granddaddy’s name Not blood but the father April never knew The system would be Sammy’s home From the age of two Empty branches on a family tree So the second son would be a Sammy too Chorus I can’t say I know myself Cuz what’s running in my veins makes me blind I don’t know if I’ll find myself But I come closet when I see my reflection in your eyes Time goes by and when it hits you It’s like your stuck holding a bag For years and years spent wondering When you’d wake to things you wish you would have had And now we’re fading into night But you still light up my days I hear our first son’s little baby cry Empty branches grown into full bloom

Look At Me 04:12
I guess I can wait forever It’s easy when you have no choice The good thing about waiting forever Is that what went wrong gets lost in the noise If you were to call me tomorrow I wonder if I’d know your voice For me to be free of this sorrow I’d go where ever you are Chorus Look at me Just Look at me Time can heal where we have disagreed Cuz there’s more to us than what separates If not today I guess I have to wait But it’s a simply place for us to start Just look at me Look at me I guess I can find some reason For why you wanna distance yourself But you never found faith in my judgement Now there’s a wall where a bridge needs to be built Oh I’ll build it with my two hands With wisdom of what I could have done better I’ll cross it and meet you where you stand Please see me son for what I am Chorus Bridge Come on boy What are you waiting for Open on up Time is getting short And I feel like I’m just buying mine And the days just keep rolling on by There’s a problem with waiting forever I never thought I’d have to say that I hope someday we’ll come clean and it won’t be in my final days Look at me Just Look at me Time can heal where we have disagreed It’s a short walk to my front door It’s been wide open for you my boy Now let’s sit down and talk a while Cuz there’s more to us than what separates The past is best to just throw away And it’s a simply place for us to start Look at me

Fair Trade 03:30
I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know I’m gonna finally let go of the things that I own I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know There’s a time when the things you desire are things you ignore It’s like you’re running away from a light in an open door There’s a time when you wake to the things you been looking for So I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know It don’t make you rich and it don’t make you poor I’m gonna to find me a fair trade I know I can see in your eyes that you think I’ve lost my nerve And running the rat race for you is how I am to serve Beware you get lost in the things that are of this world So I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know I’m gonna finally let go of the things that I own I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know I want to feel the sun on my face I want to hear the wind in my ears I want you close, want you right by my side I’m gonna fly Find me a fair trade I know I’m gonna find me a fair trade I know Cuz it won’t buy you happiness that much for sure I’m gonna to find me a fair trade I know

I boarded a plane Like any old day I took my seat, headed home I started to read Excuse me sir But if you don’t mind I don’t fly too often the window Let’s me look outside She looked my way I was out of her league But tonight with some luck The seat that’s between may stay free Chorus She was one seat away Just one seat away Might as well be an ocean today One seat away Just one seat away Maybe some other time, not for me to say She told me her name I got lost in her eyes It’s like I been there before Need some courage to walk through the door We talked till we landed The hours went fast She asked about my book She said maybe that’s why we had met Chorus Just like that a broken heart finds its beat again We walked off the plane I hoped for a sign So nice to meet you, I wish you the best The pleasures all mine Went on our way But as she walked down the stairs She looked back I followed her I took a chance holding my breath

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe It don't matter, anyhow And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe If you don't know by now When your rooster crows at the breaks of dawn Look out your window and I'll be gone You're the reason I'm traveling on Don't think twice, it's all right It ain't no use in turning on your light, babe That light I never knowed And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe I'm on the dark side of the road But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say To try and make me change my mind and stay We never did too much talking anyway So don't think twice, it's all right It ain't no use in calling out my name, gal Like you never done before It ain't no use in calling out my name, gal I can't hear you any more I'm a-thinking and a-wond'rin' walking down the road I once loved a woman, a child I'm told I give her my heart but she wanted my soul Don't think twice, it's all right So long honey, babe Where I'm bound, I can't tell Goodbye's too good a word, babe So I'll just say fare thee well I ain't saying you treated me unkind You could have done better but I don't mind You just kinda wasted my precious time But don't think twice, it's all right
